TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR THE STAR BOOKING SYSTEM 

 

1. GENERAL 

1.1 These Terms & Conditions are valid for the Star online award booking system (hereinafter referred to as the “the Star booking system”). The Star booking system allows EuroBonus members to book and purchase Star Alliance award tickets using EuroBonus points. By booking one or several flight segment(s) with the Star booking system, you confirm that you accept these Terms & Conditions.  

1.2 All bookings in the Star booking system are also subject to SAS’ EuroBonus Terms & Conditions (see EuroBonus Terms & Conditions). In the case of conflict between these Terms & Conditions and the EuroBonus Terms & Conditions, the provisions of the EuroBonus Terms & Conditions shall prevail. 

1.3 Furthermore, separate conditions apply to airline carriage and any promotions that SAS may have from time to time. If you purchase a ticket for a flight operated by SAS, our General Terms & Conditions and Conditions of Carriage apply to the purchase and flight respectively.   

 

2. BOOKING USING THE STAR BOOKING SYSTEM

2.1 The Star booking system is operated by Scandinavian Airlines System Denmark- Norway-Sweden, a consortium established under the laws of Denmark, Norway and Sweden with its principle office at Frösundaviks allé 1, SE-195 87 Stockholm, Sweden (hereinafter referred to as “SAS,” “us” or “we”).  

2.2 The Star booking system is only available for EuroBonus members. You must be logged into your EuroBonus account to search for availability and create a temporary booking in the Star booking system.

2.3 You will be able to make and retrieve a temporary booking for the desired flight segment(s) in the Star booking system. To complete your booking, you must contact SAS Sales & Service/EuroBonus (hereinafter referred to as “Sales & Service”). Contact information for Sales & Service can be found under Contact on SAS’ website. Points will not be withdrawn from your EuroBonus account until the booking has been completed by contacting Sales & Service. 

2.4 You must ensure that you have sufficient EuroBonus points in your account before a temporary reservation is issued. If you have insufficient points for the flight segment(s), you will be unable to complete your booking with Sales & Service. 

2.5 You can view availability and create a temporary booking for the airlines that from time to time are members of Star Alliance (hereinafter referred to as “Partner Airlines”). 

2.6 You can view availability for flights in Economy class or in Business class. To obtain information about availability in First class, you need to contact Sales & Service. The availability displayed in the Star booking system is temporary and availability is subject to change if temporary booking is not created. 

2.7 You will receive confirmation by email when your temporary booking has been created.

2.8 You can view your booking in your EuroBonus account under “My bookings” before and after completing the booking by calling Sales & Service and paying.

2.9 You will be able to view the point price for the desired flight segments in the Star booking system, although taxes and fees will not be displayed. To complete your temporary booking, you must pay all applicable taxes, charges and other fees, for example, airport taxes and fuel charges. 

2.10 Upon contacting Sales & Service, we will retrieve your temporary booking, inform you of the total price and complete the booking by withdrawing points from your EuroBonus account and collecting payment for applicable taxes and fees by charging your credit card. If you do not have sufficient points in your EuroBonus account when you contact Sales & Service, the booking cannot be completed.

2.11 The temporary booking will be kept for forty-eight (48) hours. After 48 hours, the temporary booking will expire and cannot be retrieved by Sales & Service.

2.12 If you do not wish to complete your temporary booking, you can either cancel the booking under My bookings in your EuroBonus account or it will automatically expire after 48 hours and no points will be withdrawn from your EuroBonus account.

2.13 You will not be able to activate or see campaigns, such as American Express Companion tickets, or benefit from discounts, such as child discounts, in the Star booking system. Campaign offers and/or discounts can only be used when you contact Sales & Service to complete the booking.

2.14 Travel on Star Alliance award trips is subject to capacity controls by the relevant Partner Airline. This may limit the number of seats available for travel. Award seats may not be available on all flights or in all classes. In addition, some Partner Airlines may impose blackout periods when award redemption is not permitted.

2.15 Star Alliance award tickets are subject to applicable departure taxes, other airport or government handling fees and any fuel or other surcharges imposed by SAS or another Partner Airline. Payment for such taxes, fees or charges will be collected when booking is completed through Sales & Service.

2.16 If you have made a temporary booking in the Star booking system and the necessary EuroBonus points in your EuroBonus account expire before the temporary booking is completed with Sales & Service, it will not be possible to complete the temporary booking.

2.17 Star Alliance Award tickets booked using the Star booking system are not eligible for EuroBonus point accrual. 

2.18 A maximum of eight (8) flight segments is permitted per Star Alliance award ticket.

2.19 Stopovers, i.e. a transit that lasts more than twenty-four (24) hours, are not permitted neither on outbound or return trips for Star Alliance award tickets. 

2.20 Both outbound and return trips must follow the most reasonable routing between the origin and the destination in accordance with industry standards. SAS reserves the right to determine whether the routing follows the most reasonable routing.

2.21 Baggage allowance rules are determined by the operating Partner Airline.

2.22 If not stated otherwise, tickets and offers can be cancelled up to one business day before they should have been used. Valid points will be transferred back to the paying member’s EuroBonus account.

2.23 Rebooking of tickets and offers are, provided the points are still valid, allowed up to one business day before the offer in question must be used (expired points cannot be reused). 

2.24 If less than one business day before the EuroBonus trip, or arrival at the hotel, the points are not transferred back to the paying member’s EuroBonus account in case of cancellation.

2.25 A service fee will be charged for cancellations or changes of Star Alliance award tickets.

2.26 SAS reserves the right to cancel a temporary booking in the Star booking system or a Star Alliance award ticket at any time if you misuse the Star booking system or your EuroBonus account or otherwise break or violate the rules set out in these Terms & Conditions, EuroBonus Terms & Conditions, General Terms & Conditions and Conditions of Carriage.

2.27 SAS also reserves the right to cancel a temporary booking in the Star booking system or a Star Alliance award ticket if you act disrespectfully towards us or our business partners, our employees or other travelers or if you engage in illegal conduct, fraud or actions that are generally regarded as immoral or unethical. 

 

3. PERSONAL DATA 

3.1 Membership in the EuroBonus program, including booking through the Star Booking System, requires us to process your personal data. To fulfill our commitment under these Terms & Conditions, it is thus necessary for us to process information that relates to you as a person.

3.2 Personal data means any information relating to you as a natural person and through which you can be identified directly or indirectly, such as your name, photo or ID number.

3.3 The personal data in question is mainly information that you have provided us with, e.g. when booking a flight, as well as data from our business partners and other third parties. We process this data for purposes related to these Terms & Conditions, such as managing your EuroBonus account and travel, making your travel with us easier, and improving and personalizing our products, services, communication and offers by getting to you know you and your preferences.

3.4 SAS is the controller that determines the purposes and means of processing your personal data.

3.5 Further information on how we process your personal data is set out in our [Privacy Policy for EuroBonus members]. Please read the policy applicable to you thoroughly and contact our Data Protection Officer at dataprotectionofficer@sas.se should you have any questions. We reserve the right to change the Privacy Policy for EuroBonus members at any time.

4. DISPUTES & APPLICABLE LEGISLATION

4.1 To the extent permissible by local law or regulations, these Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Swedish law. Both parties submit, to the extent permitted by local law or regulations, to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the District Court of Stockholm to resolve any dispute that may arise from these Terms & Conditions. 

4.2 Any provision of these Terms & Conditions declared void or unenforceable by any competent authority or court shall, to the extent of such invalidity or unenforceability, be deemed severable and shall not affect the other provisions remaining, which shall continue unaffected.
