    Travel info

    Travel with children or animals

Discover the world with the whole family. At SAS we welcome all travelers – small and large, four-legged and two-legged. Important information if you are traveling with children or animals.

    Travel with animals

Take your best friend onboard. Dogs and cats are always welcome in the cabin with SAS.

    • If you wish to bring a pet on the flight, you must reserve space at least 24 hours after you have booked your flight ticket. Contact SAS Sales and Service by phone.

    • Dogs and cats may accompany you in the cabin (except in SAS Business to the US and Asia). Other pets/animals must travel in the cargo hold.

    • If you wish to bring a kitten or puppy, it must be at least 8 weeks old. For travel with a kitten less than 14 weeks old, you need a veterinary's certificate stating it is approved for transport.

    • Pets are not permitted on charter flights with SAS.
    • For transport in the cargo hold, one cage can contain more than one animal. For transport in the cabin, one cage may contain two cats or dogs as long as the cage can be placed under the seat in front of you and does not weigh more than 8 kg/18 lbs.

    • Make sure to have the cage dimensions handy when you book your ticket. That way it is easier for us to see if there is space for the cage on the flight you want. You will receive notification regarding seat availability within 24 hours (weekdays).

    • At SAS, you always pay a flat rate per cage and route for pets in the cabin:
      • Domestic DKK 390/NOK 425/SEK 470/EUR 50/USD 65
      • Scandinavia, Europe and Turkey: DKK 540/NOK 590/SEK 650/EUR 70/USD 90
      • US and Asia: DKK 770/NOK 835/SEK 890/EUR 95/USD 130

    • Charges for transporting an animal in the cargo hold per cage and flight:
      •  Domestic DKK 500/NOK 580/SEK 620/EUR 67/USD 85
      • Scandinavia, Europe and Turkey: DKK 650/NOK 750/SEK 800/EUR 87/USD 100
      • US and Asia: DKK 900/NOK 1000/SEK 1000/EUR 110/USD 140

    • Service dogs or other service animals (such as rescue dogs) travel for free in the cabin with SAS.

    • Different countries may have different conditions for bringing animals or pets. For this reason, check into this before booking your ticket, possibly by asking the embassy of the country you will be visiting.

    • If you will be continuing your trip on another airline, or on one of our partners (a code share), other rules may apply.

    • Remember to have the correct documentation certifying your pet's health, for entering and traveling through all countries on the flight. If possible, your pet should have a microchip or a tattoo as well as a pet passport for travel within or to the EU.

    • You are required to complete a document before traveling with animals (except for domestic flights in Sweden, Norway and Denmark).
    • Only guide dogs and service dogs are permitted in the cabin when you travel to/from Great Britain and Ireland. Other animals are not permitted either in the cabin or in the cargo hold. However, you can send your pet as air freight.

    Unaccompanied minors

Summer vacation at a beach resort or a long-awaited family reunion? Even small travelers need to fly on their own sometimes. With our unaccompanied minor service, a child who is flying alone is in safe hands before, during and after the flight.

    • SAS offers an unaccompanied minor service to unaccompanied minors 5–18 years of age on domestic flights and for children up to 15 on other flights (not, however, for travel on SAS Youth tickets).

    • Children 5–11 years of age must have our unaccompanied minor service to travel alone. If they are traveling with another person who is at least 16 years of age, such as a sibling, you do not need to book the unaccompanied minor service. For children 12–18 years of age, the unaccompanied minor service is always voluntary.

    • Please book your child's trip well before departure to be certain of a seat:
      • For travel within Scandinavia, you can book online
      • For travel to Europe and other parts of the world, book this service through SAS Sales and Service by phone.
    • Your child will receive assistance through security, to the gate and to board the aircraft. Once in the cabin, our staff will help your child find the right seat and will be available throughout the flight, and will also offer something tasty from our menu. Upon landing, your child will receive help leaving the aircraft.

    • Our staff will greet your child at the aircraft, take charge of any baggage and help him or her through customs and passport checks. Then you or the person you have authorized in writing (see below) can meet the child.

    • We charge an extra fee for the unaccompanied minor service:
      • For travel domestic, the fee is DKK/NOK/SEK 350/EUR 30 per child and one-way trip.
      • Within Scandinavia, the fee is DKK/NOK/SEK 450
      • From Scandinavia Aand Finland to Europe/Intercontinental flights, the fee is DKK/NOK/SEK 450/EUR 50/USD 70 per child and one-way trip.
      • For trips from another country to Scandinavia, or trips with one of our partners, other fees may apply.
      • If you are paying for your ticket with EuroBonus points, you do not need to pay the fee.

    • For flights to/from SAS destinations in Asia and the US, we can offer assistance. If the child will be continuing the trip with another airline however, this special assistance is not available.
    • For children 12–16 years of age traveling alone without assistance, the consent of both legal guardians is required.

    • If you are a legal guardian, you always need to complete a handling advice document containing the child's personal information, route and name of the person who will be meeting the child upon arrival. The document must be signed by the parent/guardian. The document is available from our staff at the airport, but we recommend that you complete it in advance.

    • You help your child check in and drop off baggage at the airport. At check-in, you always need to provide valid ID and you need to wait at the airport until the aircraft has taken off.

    • According to EU regulations, only the person traveling and in possession of a boarding pass may pass through security and enter the transit area. If your child is traveling within Sweden, you can however accompany him or her all the way to the gate. Contact our airport staff and they will gladly assist you.

    • The person meeting the child at the end of the flight must always possess a valid ID.

    • In the event of a delay or other unforeseen situation, we are always at your child's side and will keep you, the parent, informed. Your child is never left unattended. Before departure, if there is any uncertainty at all as to whether it is possible to land at the destination owing to bad weather or other extraordinary circumstances, we cannot allow unaccompanied minors on the flight.

    • When you are flying with your infant, he or she must sit in your lap.

    • If you are traveling with two infants, you can have one child in your lap and one child in a seat beside you. You then book a seat for one of the children and pay the same price as for a child between 2 and 11. If you do this, you need to bring your own child car seat in which you secure the child.

    Child discounts

At SAS, we like the idea of travel beginning early on in life. That's why we offer children's discounts to make it extra affordable to travel with children.

    • Infants (0–23 months) travel free of charge or with a 90% discount on the price of a ticket, depending on the destination. This applies when the child flies sitting in your lap (not own seat).

    • Note that there are no children's discounts on certain special prices from/to the US.

    • Children 2–11 also enjoy generous discounts on award trips: Up to 25–50% at many of our partners.

    • Children's discounts apply on ticket prices excluding taxes and charges.
